There is a particular kind of evening that makes you slow down whether you meant to or not. The sky goes violet, the last heat leaves the stones, and you step outside just to breathe. That is the hour this little frog was made for.

He is not a lamp in the ordinary sense. He is a scene you can hold in your palm: a Solar-powered Rocking Chair Frog Light, about four inches high, sculpted in weatherproof resin. His body is mossy forest green, bumpy and mottled as if he had just climbed from the lily pond, fading into a cream-and-butter belly that looks warm even before dusk. Large glossy black eyes tilt toward the sky, and a shy smile sits on his face. He leans back in a miniature rocking chair of weathered wood—deep bark-brown, knotted and grainy, with a slatted back and curved runners—as though a woodland carpenter built him a porch of his own.

One webbed foot crosses the other. Three-fingered hands rest on the arms. In his lap he holds a tiny mug, the kind you would nurse after a long day. When the sun has charged the discreet panel on the chair, dusk turns that mug into a cup of gold. Soft amber light spills across his chest, under the seat, onto the path. Rain, wind, even snow: he stays, with no cord trailing behind him.

The inspiration is simple and a little tender. Cottage evenings. Garden folklore. The wish that someone would wait up for you. Children recognize him as a friend; grown-ups recognize themselves. Place him by the door, among the pots, on the windowsill you pass every night. You will look for his glow the way you look for a porch light when you are almost home. That is not decoration. That is belonging. And belonging, you already know, is worth bringing home.
